What is a Pediatric Dentist?
Pediatric dentists are specialists who have completed at least two years of full-time training after dental school in order to exclusively treat children. While it is true that general dentists can treat children as well, specialty training allows a pediatric dentist to have a greater depth of knowledge when it comes to a child's oral health, much like the difference between a pediatrician and a family physician.
A pediatric dentist is an expert in areas such as growth-and-development, behavior management, dental trauma, and treatment of patients with special health care needs. Pediatric dentists also have the ability to treat children in a hospital setting under general anesthesia. |
